Marie-Gold

Rap

A master in the art of doing what she wants, Marie-Gold shakes up everything in her path and willingly gives herself the means to achieve her ambitions.

Carried by the urgency both in creation and in life, the rapper leaves no room for excuses. If she is able to dream it, she will simply go for it – that’s all. Naturally gifted but willing to work hard to reach her many goals, Marie-Gold asserts her outgoing profile. Noting the absence of a model that resembles her, the young woman – additionally pursuing an education in engineering physics at the Polytechnique of the Université de Montréal – simply shrugs; paving the way is what she will do then. Driven by the duality between her artistic, ambitious self and her Cartesian counterpart, she makes no decision by wanting it all.

In 2014, Marie-Gold began her career and founded the female collective Bad Nylon while also taking over the rap battles scene in Quebec where she built a reputation. Later on, in 2018, after a particularly prolific stay in Belgium, the MC and producer felt ready and put herself forward with Goal: Une mélodie, her first solo EP. A few months following her debut, she won a GAMIQ Award in the Rap EP of the Year category. Since then, she has played multiple venues and festivals across the province – the Osheaga Block Party, OUMF festival and the Francos de Montréal just to name a few.

In March 2020, she released Règle d’or, her debut full-length album recorded in collaborations with producers from Montreal, Paris and Brussels. Influenced by notable acts such as Doja Cat, Rico Nasty, Alpha Wann and IAMDDB, Marie-Gold expresses herself through an R&B-inflicted trap that is both poetic and rebellious. Vulnerable at times too. For her, it is ultimately about conveying images and breaking barriers. In that sense, she sees fear as an opportunity to push herself beyond her limits. Fear is a motor, a catalyst; never an obstruction. With her eyes on the ball while remaining a team player, the Montreal artist finds it important to do and say things to make herself proud. Therefore, with more and more spotlights directed at her as time goes by, Marie-Gold is busy achieving her visions.

Less than a year after the release of her first studio album, she’s back with Règle deux, a four-track EP produced between Quebec and Mexico – while she was simultaneously leading an environmental conservation workshop in the village of Mahahual -, which is the logical, mature continuation of its predecessor. Then, she kicks off 2022 with Bienvenue à Baveuse City (Welcome to Baveuse City) where Marie-Gold embodies the ruler of the city. This concept album aims to be a dynamic, entertaining, and thoughtful musical immersion: a colorful universe rarely seen in rap. An assured message stands out and is confirmed. Always this line of thought that contributes to the magnetism: Marie-Gold is what we call a go-getter.

A master in the art of doing what she wants, Marie-Gold shakes up everything in her path and willingly gives herself the means to achieve her ambitions.

By taking over the local rap battle scene, she started off by fashioning an enviable reputation for herself. In 2018, she came forward with Goal: Une mélodie, her first solo EP. A few months later, the rapper, MC and producer won a GAMIQ Award in the Rap EP of the Year category. Since then, she has played multiple venues and festivals across the province of Quebec – the Osheaga Block Party, OUMF festival and the Francos de Montréal just to name a few, and recently FrancoFaune 2021 in Brussels. In March 2020, she put out Règle d’or, a well-praised debut LP recorded in collaborations with producers from Montreal, Paris and Brussels. So much work, so little time. Less than a year after the release of her studio album, she’s back with Règle deux, a four-track EP (GAMIQ 2021 – Rap / Hip-Hop EP Award), which is the logical, mature continuation of its predecessor.
