Avril Jensen

Indie Pop

Avril Jensen dreamed of being an astronaut. She also wanted to be a screenwriter. These alternate versions of herself may however exist in other dimensions. Who’s to say, really? Here and now, in any case, the universe wanted her to become a musician. It was, so to speak, written in the stars.

As she spent her childhood between Montreal, North Hatley and Sherbrooke, she early on became interested in music and composed her first song at the young age of six years old. She also founded her first band in elementary school. One could say she was clearly ahead of her time.

Initially trained on the violin, the eighteen-year-old singer-songwriter now sings and accompanies herself, switching between the guitar, the piano and the ukulele. Following an indie approach, the artist’s pop signature unfolds in French and English, and sits in a surprising place, at the intersection of acoustic and trap music. Comfortable in the studio and already autonomous behind the console, she sees her art as a playground to tell plenty of narratives. The young woman loves to learn… about almost everything and at all time. Often falling into the maze of the Internet like into some sort of vortex, she draws a large part of her inspiration from her spontaneous research on many topics. Passionate about astronomy, sci-fi and an avid TV series fan, she also names Van Gogh‘s paintings as influences that fuel her songwriting. Every single song of hers stands as a short story.

Thoughtful and mature, the promising newcomer to the Quebec scene dreams of touring and playing shows as far as possible, perhaps even into space. In the meantime, and since every good story has to begin somewhere, her debut single, the aptly titled ‘Attends (feat. EXKY)’ (which means ‘Wait’) has been available since the fall of 2021. Selected by Spotify, the song is part of their Best songs of the year 2021 playlist (Qc). In April 2022, the young singer-songwriter is releasing her debut EP, COLORS. COLORS is a project to show that I don’t want to categorize myself or stick to just one style. It reflects lived experiences and musical experimentations that took me out of my comfort zone. Therefore, it 100% represents me, explains Avril Jensen.
