Papagroove has returned to the French side of the music scene with Solange, following the release of their first French EP in over fifteen years, Les sabliers (2022). With their latest offering, the eight-member band has managed to create a sound that takes inspiration from the early 60s and enlivens it with the raw energy of punk rock. Solange tells the story of two people who have wildly different approaches to partying but still manage to have a great time together. This catchy and upbeat tune, punctuated by powerful brass, is a testament to the band’s ability to bring back the groovy and high-energy atmosphere that they are renowned for.

After the release of three full-length albums and an EP, a GAMIQ win in the “Album or EP – World Music” category, an ADISQ gala nomination in the same slot in 2018 for the album The Hunt, and an impressive list of festivals to its credit – the Festival international de jazz de Montréal, Calgary Folk Music Festival, Nuits d’Afrique, Hornby Festival, Festival d’été de Québec, Festif (opening for Cat Empire) and SunFest, among others – the band reveals the imminent arrival of a new, predominantly French-language musical offering. Their last EP showcased a mellow and introspective sound, but they are now indicating a comeback to their signature wild afro-funk style. This Fall… Y’annonce beau!

Cleverly delivering some high-energy afro-funk fusion influenced by Fela Kuti’s politicized afrobeat, Parliament’s clever groovy funk, James Brown’s passionate soul flavour, Bruno Mars’ bubbly pop sound and Jimi Hendrix’s rock intensity since their debut in 2006, Papagroove is known for their fiery stage presence, their mastery of improvisation, and their explosive energy.
