NAXX BITOTA

Afropop Mutashi

Born under the sun of the Democratic Republic of Congo, NAXX BITOTA discovered her gift for music at the age of 9 and was already dreaming of making a career out of it.
As a teenager, she emigrated—first to Belgium, then to Quebec in 2008—carrying with her the firm intention of nurturing and sharing her artistic talent. Along the way, she built a name for herself by performing in a wide range of choirs, from classical and gospel to folk and traditional African styles.

A singer-songwriter and performer, NAXX BITOTA defines her sound by fusing Afropop with Mutuashi, a unique traditional genre from the Congo. Her compositions—anchored in diverse African rhythms—reflect both her vibrant energy and deep commitment.

Fueled by her creative generosity, contagious energy, passion for singing, and above all, her distinctive sound, she has taken to local and international stages with power and grace. Her spirited yet socially engaged personality shines through in her signature “AFROPOP – MUTUASHI”: a sound that is both refined and powerful.

Following her acclaimed debut album Kuetu, which resonated at major national and international events—including the historic Sauti Za Busara festival in Zanzibar (Tanzania), Folk Alliance International in Kansas City (USA), Festival des musiques du bout du monde in Gaspé (Canada), and Semaine internationale de la Francophonie in Bogotá, Barranquilla, and Medellín (Colombia)—she now returns with a bold new offering: 64.

This new opus reveals another dimension of her artistic identity, offering a synthesis of the highs and lows she has experienced as both a woman and a global citizen. Once again, her message is clear and compelling: human equality, social harmony, responsibility in the face of sustainable development, and personal autonomy.

Inspired by the great artists who came before her, NAXX BITOTA continues to find elegant and powerful ways to bring people together in celebration of cultural diversity—a deeply rooted commitment that has guided her throughout her career.

The project reflects her deepest thoughts and the many dimensions of her artistic identity.

Co-produced with Lionel Katshingu (Les Lions Noirs), 64 also embodies the sum of her positive and challenging life experiences as both a woman and a global citizen. The album boldly advocates for human equality, coexistence, and collective responsibility toward sustainable development, while encouraging women worldwide to embrace greater autonomy—no matter their geographical context.
